My name is Dominique, founder of The Sisters in Law, LLC. I am an attorney based in Austin. I love the work I do, but I am a firm believer in not being defined by my job. On that note, here are a few non-job related things about me! I am a former collegiate athlete and still enjoy working out. My husband and I love to go hiking and camping, but I’m more of the “can we put an air mattress in this tent” kind of camper. I love good food and can usually be convinced to drop everything to try a new restaurant with friends. I am not a native Texan (sorry y'all), but I love living in Austin. I am a mom to twins and have the cutest tabby cat.

I started The Sisters in Law because I cam out of law school knowing the stats on minority women in the law were abysmal. Whether in a courtroom or client meeting, I often found that I was the only woman of color in the room, or at best one of two.  I wanted to find a way to connect minority women across practice groups to lift each other up and hopefully increase the retention of diverse talent in the legal field.

 

I was really fortunate to have fabulous women around me throughout law school, the bar exam, and the years that followed and I wanted cultivate that sisterhood for others. Hopefully, through the guest blog posts, curated interviews, and events, you can find encouragement, food for thought, or a kick in the rear when needed.
